Reflexology & Health

Updated: Sep 30

Reflexology is much more than a foot massage. Reflexology is a natural and non-invasive treatment option offering a drug free healing modality to reduce pain, maintain good health as preventative care and ease overused hands and feet. Reflexology is a technique connecting pressure points on the hands, feet and ears to stimulate specific organs and areas throughout the body. An ancient therapeutic treatment, reflexology techniques have been practiced for thousands of years and by many cultures.

The therapeutic non-invasive technique of reflexology is a gentle approach with something to offer babies, children, seniors, people with physical disabilities, pregnant women and even those struggling with serious illness. Applying gentle pressure to the solar plexus area of the foot can calm a fussy baby, provide a sense of safety to someone struggling with feelings of anxiety and even provide a sense of connection and grounding during a meditation or yoga practice.

When we experience safe touch, we stimulate the release of feel-good hormones that impact our body, mind, and spirit – adding the technique of reflexology takes bodywork a step further. Reflexology maps pinpoint specific pressure points that communicate with corresponding organs and parts of the body, enhancing function and clearing blocked energy. As pressure is applied, communication to the brain sends signals to the targeted areas, enhancing blood flow, calming the central nervous system and allowing the body space for healing. This technique has the potential to break up the patterns of stress, a common cause of slowed or blocked energy flow, resulting in body imbalance.

We may all benefit from reflexology and as we all become more aware of our health and focusing on ways to maintain balance, incorporating reflexology is a great place to start. Whether you add this service to your massage with a licensed professional or practice on yourself, reflexology can help reduce pain and feelings of stress. Note – If you are pregnant please be cautious of points that may stimulate contractions.

We must remember reflexology is not healing the body. Reflexology is simply a technique used to bring the body back into balance, clearing blockages and allowing the body the space to heal. You do not have to have any special skills or change your spiritual beliefs to incorporate reflexology into your wellness routine, your body will respond to the power of touch. The information shared is for educational purposes only and should not be used to diagnose or treat disease. Always consult with your healthcare provider.
